Feb. 11 – Transparent With God

“If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” – 1 Jn. 1:6-7

When you take sand, melt it at over 1000 degrees, and then allow it to cool, what do you have? The amazing material we call glass. And there’s not just one type of glass. If you add in different ingredients, you’ll end up with a variety of effects.

Some glass only allows certain points on the light spectrum to pass through. That’s how you end up with colored glass. Then you have glass that tends to scatter the light. You can’t see through the pane to the other side. The view is fuzzy. If a large amount of impurities is added to glass, it actually becomes opaque, not allowing any light to pass through.

Our ego envelope acts just like glass. In our relationship with God, He would prefer that it be transparent. If we don’t refuse the light but rather embrace it, then God can see into the depths of our soul. But the payoff for this transparency is exceptional. This means we also get to see God, to have fellowship with him.

If we only accept some of the truth, we’re wearing spiritual rose-colored glasses. That’s a metaphor that describes those who choose to only look at the pleasant things of the world, ignoring the harsher and more difficult aspects of living. Some people accept the whole truth but they don’t want to deal with it. They diffuse the light, making their soul translucent. Their fellowship with God is greatly diminished. But then you have those who have so much sin in their lives, no light passes through at all.

How’s the view in your heart today?
